Poland, 12th November 1914: After the 1st Battle of the Masurian Lakes, von Mackensen was promoted and given command of the new German 9.Armee. This army was rapidly sent by rail to southwest Poland, on the northern flank of the Austro-Hungarian armies, and put on the offensive towards Warsaw. Outnumbered by the Russians by three to one and with intercepted wireless messages that two Russian armies were planning on invading the Silesia region of the German Empire, the Germans called off the attack and rapidly withdrew before any real fighting occurred. 9.Armee then backtracked by rail to northwest Poland, and formed up for another offensive. The new plan was for the Austro-Hungarians in the south to advance towards Cracow, while the Germans simultaneously advanced towards Lodz. The plan was ambitious: to save Silesia by outflanking the Russian attack just as it began. [Size: huge] *See the notes document for information on scenario design decisions and historical notes.

it looked like the tzarist Russia was going to have a huge quantitative advantage so I decided to deem the scenario as being moderately tilted into the Entente favour, but one needs to take into consideration that those forces need to be properly employed and their mediocre - to say the least - performance always taken into consideration.

The Russians likely have to attack at some point to win and it is always hard to attack as the Russians

Lots of room to move. Both sides have opportunities to attack and defend. Russians seem to have a tough time.
