Based on a historical account from HISTORY OF THE PANZER-REGIMENT GROSSDEUTSCHLAND by Hans-Joachim Jung and the scenario "PANZERGEIST" for ASL by Pete Shelling. Additional sources consulted included Google Earth for contemporary view of the terrain and the Lexicon-der-Wehrmacht website for additional order of battle information.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The 1st Battalion of the Panzer Regiment Grossdeutschland was detached from the division for refitting with the Panther tank. It found itself in France at the time of D-Day (and BAGRATION) in June 1944. After returning to the Eastern Front, I./Pz.Rgt. GD served in support of the 6th Panzer Division and was with that formation in late October during a series of battles near Olszak, Poland. The regimental newspaper of the division quoted a GD officer declaring, after one of these successful attacks, "We still have the old Panzergeist! (Armoured Spirit)."

A well put together scenario plenty of different approaches to reach your objectives
I think it's slightly pro axis because of the long range and accuracy of the Panther

+1 with "Artyman" review. Especially that it is pro Axis ... "because of the long range and accuracy of the Panther."

Great H2H scenario. It's no secret that "most believe" (on a one-to-one basis) that German tanks were superior. That being said, I think the Russians need more armor to make it "more even"; if you you want it more even ... as a meeting engagement scenario.

I played this as USSR, H2H PBEM, ending in a draw. (German Army 290 vs Soviet Guards 281)
Fun scenario, well made for H2H PBEM, and my compliments to Michael for making it.

Spoiler alert ***

Forces are "mostly" equal, although slightly pro-axis IMO. The Russians have one anti-tank gun, that is destroyed as soon as its position is revealed. However, the Germans have several panzershrecks; so the Russsians better keep distance from Germnan infantry ... or else suffer the consequences. Early in the game. I had five T-34s knocked out ... at 100 meters, argh. (ok, one dismounted) with no loss to
the axis. With superior German tank optics and panzershreck equipped infantry, the Russians need at least a couple more tanks, to even this out. Kudos to "Mudking" as the Axis ... a tough opponent indeed !!!

Small Map - I think I got lucky on a couple of turns, otherwise, I would say that is slightly favored the Russians.

Since it is similar forces and a meeting engagement, I think the Russians should get at least a couple more tanks. Panthers are deadly, have better optics and much fast ROF. Plus, the German infantry have plenty of panzerschreks, whereas the Russian infantry have none.

Good map and interesting tactical problem. The terrain and ground conditions make navigation quite difficult for armor. In addition, the weather conditions significantly restrict visibility making this a very tense and spooky scenario. This is an armor-heavy encounter with contacts typically sound only until point-blank close encounters separate the quick from the dead. IMO Germans have a slight advantage due to infantry anti-armor capability and tank optics/rate of fire. However, Soviets have good quality armor and close combat infantry.
Enjoyed this one - kudos to the designer Michael Dorosh.

A night meeting engagement well made, you are on the attack and defence at the same time, i think that a play can result in a drawe or a total defeat by one side with non exceptions
