In the Shadow of the Hill is a series of missions, covering the actions in the area Fontaine Etoupefour-Maltot on the 10th July 1944 - being part of the larger operation known to the British as Operation Jupitor whose main objective was the capture of Hill 112. The master map for these scenarios is 1.6k wide by 4k deep, and all actions take place on smaller sections of this map. This is the second mission in the series and this scenario represents the continuation of the attack by 5 Dorsets following on from their succesful capture of the farm complex at les Duanes. Their objective for this mission is the capture of the larger farm complex and chateau ruins of Chateau de Fontaine Each mission is seperate from the others in the series, so casualties, armour losses etc do not carry over to subsequent missions. Rather the forces provided at the start of each mission are as close as match to the historical forces encountered as game play will allow. Category: Semi Historical In the Shadow of the Hill 06.00-07.00 Best played as: British vs AI or H2H An AI plan also exists to allow German vs AI Scenario length: 60 minutes +10 min variable. Mission type: Allied attack, secure terrain objectives Date/time: 10th July 1944, 06.00-07.00 hrs Weather conditions weather: Overcast temperature: Cool wind: Gentle from West Historical Notes On the British side forces are elements of 130 Infantry Bde, while on the German side units from 22 PzGr Regt 10th SS Pz Div, 12th SS Pz Div, and 1st SS Pz Div were all involved. 130 Bde was tasked with securing the Eastern flank of Hill 112 split over three phases Phase 1. 130 Brigade, with 9 Royal Tank Regiment were to clear the area of les Duanes before moving on to capture Chateau de Fontaine Phase 2. 130 Brigade again supported by 9 RTR were to attack Eterville and Maltot before advancing towards St Martin to the south east of Hill 112 Phase 3. 130 Brigade to establish defences on a line Eterville - Maltot, so protecting the open flank to the east. If successful these actions would see the German Outpost Line and first Stop Line being breached, and severe pressure exerted on the Second Stop Line, while 129 Bde in action to the West would capture Hill 112.

A most typical Normandy encounter - expect a big hello from the Royal Artillery.

Very atmospheric 2nd round of the great Hill 112 assaults.
German defence is very stubborn and tough to eliminate, quite authentic!
