The Historical Campaign Game (Kitchen Sink; No 52nd AL, No Gavin's Nightmare). In this scenario the Allied Player is given good weather and a variety of drop choices for the 1st British Airborne Division, the US 82nd Airborne Division and the Polish Parachute Brigade. The German player is given some latitude with reinforcements. This scenario starts at 1200 on 17 September so that strategy options that may have an impact on the 1400 turn may be chosen. Both players should refrain from movement, mode change, artillery usage and digging in on the 1200 turn of 17 September. This scenario is designed for Human vs Human play. Enjoy!

Large scenario 73 turns, Designer High Krausen

Any intrepid warriors want to test this one?

28 July 1941
Velikiye Luki, 220km NW of Smolensk:[Version 1.0][HISB-HYPO][EA
or not] [N V V] As the strategic push for Moscow moves forward
the Germans try to create a huge "Kessel". It was not always
about defeating the Russians that they faced locally, it was
more gobbling up pieces of ground, surrounding large formations,
and cutting them off. On the operational maps the German Army
Command saw large "kettles" that were full of Russian soldiers
waiting to be trapped. In this battle a reinforced German Regiment
tries to break through a fortress town in an effort to grasp
the handle of the larger Kessel of Smolensk. This German force
is tasked to push aside the town garrison and continue driving
Eastward. The Russians must hold onto this "fortress" to prevent
the Germans from "putting the lid on the kettle". Later in the
war this area was one where the Germans would fight a defensive
battle against overwhelming odds, in the snow, to keep the Russians
from making a kettle. As for now they must simply push aside
Russian resistance and close the lid.

I remember reading an interesting article written by a historian about a possible invasion of UK by the Germans but in 1942 instead of 1940.

The departing point was that the battle of britain ended either in a stalemate (with no clear winner and both Luftwaffe and RAF with heavy losses) or a German victory.

Later when Hitler decided to launch Barbarossa instead of getting obsessed with taking Moscow, he followed the advices of his generals and went to take Stalingrad, cripple the oil supply line to Northern part of Russia and capture an important amount of oil and soviet industry crippling the red army's mobility in the process. All this would have happened between June and November 1941.

Meanwhile in North Africa it was not until November 1942 that Monty launched his offensive so we can assume that the axis in North Africa were to say the least "comfortable".

In this scenario, with a red army slowly recovering (slower than historically did due to the fall of their main industrial core and oil fields) the German army could have diverted forces and resources to launch sealion in February 1942.

It would make an interesting scenario because the Britons would count with the American help and there could have even happened that they would have convinced Ireland to align with the allies to let the americans use their bases.

What do you think?? What German forces you think would have been involved in this operation?? Would the German use paratroopers in this "special" operation after the landings in Crete?

This concerns a siege:

-This siege came about due to the inability of the invading force to bypass the fortified city in question here. They thus had to settle for a siege in order to free up their route of advance. This was not the first time that this city (and its attending fortifications) had been besieged in this manner and the fortifications of the city had been continously strenghtened as a result.

-The defending force represented the powers of a mighty multi-ethnic empire, one of the great powers of that time. They were however greatly outnumbered initially.

-The attackers were a loose confederation of various bands that appears to have had no unifying purpose apart from the wish for plunder.

-The siege lasted approximately 12 months. It is remarkable due to the fact that it was sustained during the winter. It also featured the use of siege artillery, engineering and engines (at least initially).

-The siege was notable for the combat participation of a religious figure on the defending side.

-After approximately 3 months the besiegers had managed to reduce the fortifications enough that their marchroute was now freed up. Most of the besieging army then continued on, but the siege was sustained.

-The besieged petitioned for help repeatedly, but mostly in vain. In the end, a relief force was sent, but it allowed the invaders to get away on purpose. The city under siege held out however.
