Smoke Effectiveness?

Smoke Effectiveness?
I know Smoke only affects fire through the smoke hex. But I notice that a unit can fire at an enemy along the hexside of a smoke hex. Is that correct. It really limits the effectiveness of Smoke in a small area like the Getting Stated scenario.

RE: Smoke Effectiveness?
Can someone confirm that Smoke does not block fire along a hexside of a smoked hex (again the smoked hex is in between firer and target).

RE: Smoke Effectiveness?
LOS can go "around the corner", so unless both hexes along a hexside are blocked by smoke, a stack over 50% stacking limit or terrain, you'll be able to see the hex on the other end of a hexside as seen from the hex of the spotting unit.

This can make placing smoke to block the LOS of units that are located along a diagonal line from your unit tricky. I tend to load another instance of the scenario and place smoke to see what works and what doesn't for those situations.
