wigam Wrote:I had SH2 and really enjoyed it, but after hearing about all the new stuff in SH4 i will get it. Might stay away from the hospital ships :smg:

I would recommend SH3 instead, I have both and I am playing SH3. I only played SH4 about 5 times. Now with that said, I haven't tried SH4 with all the mods for it at subsim.com yet either. Either way, make sure you have a pretty good system and get the mods. For SH3 get the Grey Wolves Expansion 1.03 (DL in 5 parts). But the nice thing is you can get SH3 for about $20 now instead of the $50 for SH4.

Weasel Wrote:Ok, that was my old system, 3K/mhz with 1 gig ram and I could run GW but it would chug in a convoy. I upgraded to a dual core 4200 with 2 gig ram and a modern video card X1950 pro and I play at top of the line settings no problems. NTL - you can play SH4 as I said if you can play SH3.

I have only ever sunk 1 fishing boat, at the end of a mission. I was out of torpedoes and deck gun ammo (Type II) so I rammed him which sent him to the bottom rather quickly. I like using my flak guns to set off the cargo on board merchants...WOO HOO fire works!

I can't say i have any frame rate probs......yet.

I may spring the dosh for SH4, Play.com has it for just £17.99 free P+P.

What we need is a pirate mod for SH3. ;)

cheers

RE: Blitz Questionnaire - PzHeinz
What is your name?
PzHeinZ

How did you decide upon your Blitz nickname?

I admire Heinz Guderian; as Panzer-Heinz was one of his nicknames, I decided to modify mine from that.

What ladders are you represented on?

Steel Panthers

What is your favorite PC War-game?

Steel Panthers

Who has been your hardest opponent?

I have had many talented opponents, but if I have to name one Jadpanther is a hard nut to crack. Nearly all our games ended on my total defeat...on the other hand he gave me good lessons while kicking my azz.

How long have you been a member of the Blitz?

From June 2003

What War interests you the most?

WW2

If you could choose to be present at one historical event what would it be?

The massive military parade in Berlin april 1939 when Hitler turned 50

What is your favorite War movie?

Das Boot

What do you snack on while gaming?

Usually nothing. At weekends beer and sandwiches is a good combination.

What is your favorite and least favorite aspect of the Blitz website?

Generally the good spirit, you will find answers and different opinions on everything from history to gaming. There are no a**holes as members that make you angry. I have met some at some other boards.

Do you own any war memorabilia?

A Finnish WW2 steel helmet, French 75mm arty shell from WW1, Mauser K98k.

What is the best military book you have read?

I enjoyed the “Stalingrad” by Anthony Beevor a lot.

What do you think was the single most important event of WWII?

The day Hitler declared war on the US and doomed the Axis to loose.

What is the most interesting documentary you have ever watched?

I watch a lot of documents, it is so hard name one.....today a long documentary series of Winston Churchill came to an end. In general BBC makes the best ones.

What is your favorite version of Steel Panthers?

H2H

Are there any war games catching your eye at present?

Nope.

What piece of wisdom would you like to pass on to your fellow Blitz members?

Take a dump BEFORE loading a game turn your tough opponent has sent to you. This saves you from unnecessary pant laundry.

RE: Blitz Questionnaire - Matxer
What is your name?
Matthieu Xerri

How did you decide upon your Blitz nickname?
The first 3 letters of my real name:
MAThieu XERri = matxer

What ladders are you represented on?

SP

What is your favorite PC War-game?
SP !

Who has been your hardest opponent?
Hard to give a name: so many good players ! Air Master comes to my mind.
Narwan is the one who impresses me the most by his deep knowledge of the game mechanics. Also, he has the best track record (no loss in 44 games, 17 victories in a row).

How long have you been a member of the Blitz?

Since April 2003.

What War interests you the most?
The Vietnam Wars: how a small and poor country defeated France, US, Cambodia and kept China at bay.

If you could choose to be present at one historical event what would it be?
The life and death of Jesus Christ. Was he just a charismatic man or the son of God ?

What is your favorite War movie?
So many good movies ! ‘Tears of the Sun’, ‘Blackhawk is Down’, ‘The Beast of War’.

What do you snack on while gaming?
Nothing usually.

What is your favorite and least favorite aspect of the Blitz website?
Favorite: the competitive aspect of the Blitz. I know that many players rightfully suggest not to take the Ladder too seriously. But I can’t help loving to climb this Ladder. I regularly look at the stats.
Least favorite: when an opponent sends his turn at too low a pace (less than 3 times / week). A pbem is like music: it needs tempo, momentum, speed. If you wait too much in between turns, the momentum and the spell are broken. For example, you don’t exactly remember where enemy arty landed at the end of your last turn. Better few games at a fast pace than many slow games !

Do you own any war memorabilia?
No.

What is the best military book you have read?

‘The History of the German Army 1939-1945’ by Philippe Masson

What do you think was the single most important event of WWII?

The US discovery of the nuclear bomb. Little mattered Stalingrad: had the allies not succeeded in submitting Germany by conventional weapons, the US would have treated Germany like Japan in August 1945.

What is the most interesting documentary you have ever watched?
Don’t remember the English title but it’s a recent documentary on a well-known Manchester (UK) gangster.

What is your favorite version of Steel Panthers?
WinSPMBT

Are there any war games catching your eye at present?
The Operational Art of War

What piece of wisdom would you like to pass on to your fellow Blitz members?
The ‘Serenity Prayer’ that I have just discovered in the movie ‘Mr Brooks’. It is used by the US AA. It goes like this:

God, help me to accept the things that I cannot change,
And to change the things that I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Help me to take things one day at a time
And to enjoy one moment at a time.

RE: Blitz Questionnaire - Weasel
Tears Of The Sun is a great movie. Bruce Willis is an awesome actor, may not win an Oscar but he is great to watch. He was really good in 16 Blocks too.

TOAW has a first-rate Vietnam scenario. Campaign for South Vietnam does a good job of reflecting the political realities of the war. I'm playing two games, one as the US and one as the NLF, and in my NLF game, I am having a great deal of fun trying to lure the US player into border violations with the NVA while the VC sneak around the bush trying to pacify the central highlands. USS Wyoming

How did you decide upon your Blitz nickname?
The battleship’s name taken from my home state.

What ladders are you represented on?
SP, Combat Mission

What is your favorite PC War-game?
CM and SP.
Who has been your hardest opponent?
I haven’t heard from him in sometime, but I never beat Dutchie once in SP. I would even intentionally look for scenarios that were biased in my favor and tell him so. Had some great banter, as well.

How long have you been a member of the Blitz?
3 years? I would have to look. Probably more?

What War interests you the most?
The US Civil War always had my attention, but Ken Burns brought it to everyone’s attention and I had to share it with a bunch of other’s who didn’t have to work as hard to learn about it. Now it’s all WW2. Eastern front at the moment.

If you could choose to be present at one historical event what would it be?
Battle: Thermopylae
Speech: Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address
Event: A dusk launch of the Space Shuttle

What is your favorite War movie?
It hasn’t been made yet, a definitive film on the Civil War.
What do you snack on while gaming?
Some coffee in the winter and a yogurt in the summer.

What is your favorite and least favorite aspect of the Blitz website?
My home page is the Blitz forum. I would like to quickly download scenarios from right there.

Do you own any war memorabilia?
Three feet to my right leans a rifle that was formerly the property of the Imperial Japanese Army and was borrowed by my wife’s grandpa.

What is the best military book you have read?
My earliest recollection of military books was at the small hometown library and the not so familiar “bookmobile”. The titles escape me, but the daring pilots of the RAF and their spectacular Spitfires remain in my memory almost forty years after I closed the covers on those adventures.

What do you think was the single most important event of WWII?
Invasion of Russia

What is the most interesting documentary you have ever watched?
Ken Burns’s Civil War

What is your favorite version of Steel Panthers?
SP Enhanced or H2H. Does anybody remember those?

Are there any war games catching your eye at present?
Is there anybody developing an improved graphic version of SP?

What piece of wisdom would you like to pass on to your fellow Blitz members?
I love a spirited debate on any issue, but let’s not be personal. If you insist on derogatory remarks, they absolutely must be considered hilarious across the world.
