Some men are born to be comic-book villains in real life.

My social skills were always noted by my superiors and my equals. My military career was distinguished. Never mind the fact that I lost the largest independent command I ever held in one of the few battles in history to go exactly the way the winner planned. It wasn't a very big battle, anyhow. My political career was notable, too; I was the leader of the pro-slavery faction in the national legislature, but still had time to campaign successfully to have my nation's most successful general removed from his command.

Got it in one. Congratulations.

"Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton...arrogant, ruthless, and by all reports (including his own) utterly charming."

Tarleton is another one of those real-life rotters like Richard of Gloucester, who have fans and groupies long after they are gone.
