The Blitz – Combat Mission Welcome Letter

Combat Mission Community Leader: Wigam
Combat Mission Assistant Community Leader: Der Kuenstler

First let me start off by welcoming you to one of the very best war-gaming clubs on the internet. I think you will find the quality of players at The Blitz to be the finest on the WWW, always eager to help and always willing to give you a good game.

This letter is designed to help the new player to become acquainted with PBEM (play by e-mail) war gaming, how to post a game challenge on the message board, how to set up a fair game, and the reporting of end games. How to choose a player will also be touched upon, although opponent preferences are largely gleaned over months of playing time.

The easiest way to find an opponent is to post a challenge on the Blitz CM (Combat Mission) message board. Clicking on Message Boards under G3 at the main Blitz welcome screen accesses this area. You will then be taken to the Available Forums menu where you select Combat Mission, which will then take you to the CM message board.

To post a new message click on NEW TOPIC, complete your ladder name and e-mail address and subject. In the message body type what you wish and when complete press the POST button. Note: the actual processing of the message sometimes takes a minute or two, do not press the button repeatedly as this will create multiple posts.

When posting a game challenge the following information should be considered and posted as necessary:

1. Game engine to be used (CMBO, CMBB or CMAK).
2. Year and month of battle.
3. Type of battle (meeting engagement – ME), Axis attack or Allied attack (other variables are available also) or you can state which scenario or operation you would like to play.
4. Nations to be fought.
5. Size of battle if QB (IE. 1000Pt ME)
6. Any rule sets to be used.
7. Size of map.
8. Number of turns.
9. Number of turns you wish to be played per week (some players only play 1 turn per week!)
10. How good of an opponent you are looking for. There are also players that specialize in teaching other players the finer points of e-mail play.

They will discuss the game as you go, provide tips on your play, and should give you a force or point advantage. If you wish a mentor just ask for one in your post.

Once you accept a challenger you must set up the game. See the link below on details about how to PBEM.

Once the game is over you must report the game.

After obtaining a game result go under G1 Admin to report the game. Select the ladder the game comes under (Combat Mission) and the version. You will then be taken to a scenario selection screen where you can report the game against an established scenario, or as a default ME. From this screen you will be taken to the actual game report screen. Complete the necessary boxes, enter your password and click on Log The Game Result. Once submitted you and your opponent will each receive an e-mail with the posted results, plus your member’s page will be updated also.

A quick note on picking an opponent: You should always go to the prospective opponent’s member’s page and check out his gaming results details. Look for a player that plays opponents of all levels and all types of missions and nations. Some players will specialize in only playing as one nation with the exact same setup each game. Others will prefer to only play new players, hoping for easy victories. While these sorts of players are very rare, they do exist.

That should get you started, if you have any questions feel free to contact me at any time.

Good luck and good gaming.
