Hey Dan,

Any word on when the Round 2 files will arrive?

I also have a question on the FOO rules for this round (which I've quoted below for convenience): Disregarding preregistered hexes, rule 5 states an FO may only call 1 battery per turn on a target. Does that mean that said FO can call 1 battery *each* turn?

For instance, let's say in turn 1 FO Schwarz spots a squad of my plucky British lads and calls a mortar battery to fire on their hex. On turn 2, more of my stouthearted boys appear. FO Schwarz already has the 81mm battery trained on the hex. Because LOS is required in these rules, there isn't even any drift. In turn 2, can the German player both keep firing the mortars and have Schwarz add a 75mm battery to the barrage? In turn 3, can he have the 81s and the 75s simply carry on, while he adds a Nebelwerfer strike to the mix?

This isn't unrealistic. Schwarz tells the mortar commander to "fire for effect," switches channels, and gets the howitzer boys to hustling. Ditto for the rockets in turn 3. But it's not clear whether it's allowed by these rules.

Round 2 FOO Rule:

1 - You may only fire at one hex per FOO in your OOB + 1 hex for the A0 unit. If you lose an FOO you lose his fire mission ability for the rest of the game. So if you start with 4 fire mission per turn and lose an FOO you now have only 3 fire missions, and so on if you lose more FOOs.

2 - You must fire all tubes in a battery at that hex. In the case of a British mortar platoon for example this means ALL 3 tubes must be fired at the same hex. British batteries consist of 2 units, both must be fired at the same hex.

3 - If you adjust fire then all tubes in a battery must be adjusted to the same hex.

4 – To fire on a target the FOO must have LOS to the target hex and the same applies to adjustment of fire.

5 - The FOO may only call one Battery per turn on a target (so he could call a mortar platoon on a target or an ARTY battery but not both).

6 - An EXCEPTION to these rules apply to PRIORITY TARGET HEXES:
You do not need LOS to a priority target hex to fire on it.
You may fire as many batteries as you like at a priority target hex.

Hi
I think there may possibly be some revisions to the FOO rules to make them a tad more simple.
They are a great idea but very easy to get wrong...and that causes confusion...and that's not good Smile

I use FOO rules where ever possible, but even with practice, it is still easy to screw things up.
A much more simple version will work fine.
Hopefully we'll find out what is going on soon enough.

Cheers
I'm not actually a big fan of any FOO rules, for various reasons, but I'll certainly play by whatever rules that the tournament director stipulates.

I like my FOO rules, but for the sake of simplicity and enforcement they are being revised. I'll get the new rules out to you in a couple of days. They are decidedly less complex.
Hi
Good to hear that you are using a revised version of FOO rules.
Excellent news.

The days of one tube per target are over!
More realism is what we want.

Hurrah!

Perhaps you disagree Seabolt? Stir

Oh, it's not like I'll be in a snit over them. It's a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. I do think that enforcement is one issue with FOO rules---it's impossible to know whether someone is fudging on them---so I'll be interested to see what the revised rules look like.

So how goes round 2?
In my battle against Model it's turn 8 and the first Germans have reached the other side of the first river. On south the armored spearhead is now a couple of hexes from the bridges. Some bridges have been blown out by the Brits but most of them remain intact. Casualities have been light so far. I wonder if 30 turns is enough to take a significant portion of VLsChin...

cheers,
Thexder

It's going swell. Klanx171 kills my boys. I watch him do it. Rinse and repeat. But it's Turn 10 and (knock on wood) so far no Germans on the wrong shore and the most important bridges are fond memories.

Oh, the round has started already! I was wondering about the long waiting period after the new FOO rules but that it probably because an email is missing somewhere.
