Guys,
My sincere apologies. Deadline was extended, Matrix was released . . . and I went on "walkabout."
No good excuses, just got busy the past several weeks.
I have compiled the list of the Sweet 16 and will publish it by the end of this weekend, hopefully along with the Phase II (single elimination), first round matchups.
As it turns out, there will actually be a "Sweet 18" for the tournament's next phase as two guys that would have made it for sure missed the deadline for completion of the last round by a few weeks due to circumstances beyond their control. So we will go with eighteen players for the upcoming single elimination round and adjust as necessary. In all likelihood, someone may drop along the way anyhow, so we may get back to an even number of contestants that will not require anyone to sit out a round.
I need to spend some time assessing the matchups for the next phase/round and coming up with scenarios for each match. My goal will be consistent with the tournament format, with scenarios and sides selected with the intent to "balance out" the matches; stronger player assigned the weaker side. That, of course, is always subjective, but the approach has worked out pretty well so far and made for some fun and interesting fights.
Again guys, my apologies for the Hudini act. I have no good excuses. I was out of town for a while in June and then got busy over the past two weeks planning for an upcoming trip. I'll be heading out for two weeks starting next Tuesday, so I'll try to get the assignments done and the next round off and running before I leave. If I can't, I will post a notice and the next round would in that case start around August 1st.
Hopefully I'll have time to make the assignments this weekend and get the next round underway before I leave.
Also note, we will not be using the Matrix version for the SFS Tournament, so you will need to be able to play with pre-Matrix CS installs. If that's not possible for anyone who made the next round, I will need to know immediately.
I will definately post in the next few days listing the 18 players who qualified for Phase II of the tournament.
I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who played and stuck with the SFS Tournament through the first four rounds of Phase I.
It has been a blast and you are a class group of gamers! :bow

A more than reasonable request Fubar, especially given the unique tournament format. Duly noted.
Alas, the stat compilation will have to wait until I return in August, as I'm sure I won't have time to do it before I leave on the trip. But I will definately do that upon my return.
A quick review of the pre-SFS and post-SFS game reports reveals that the subjective balancing made a huge difference. Scenarios that were totally lopsided one direction, usually turned out the opposite when player skill levels were taking into account in making side assigments. In most cases, the more veteran player was able to overcome often steep odds to win the matches.
I will do a full SFS Tournament Phase I assessment and stat report in early August. But you may want to scan those report tables yourself in the meantime. Very interesting.
