This book deals with the eventual success of the Allied assault against Monte Cassino.
Most people will associate the battle of Monte Cassino with the heroic assault of the Polish 2nd Corps to take the monastery of St Benedict.
However, the real heroes were the French Expeditionary Corps, under the command of General Juin. His troops were the first to get a significant victory against the Germans, despite the fact that the terrain favored the German defenders and these troops died in droves, but still kept going.
The book contains a lot of photographs and more importantly a serious amount of maps, which shows how the offensives were planned. Also there are lavish quotes from both sides of the battle.
Overall, this is a great read and was well worth buying from Amazon.
